OUR goal
With the full support of our local partners, Vesna is working towards building Bohol’s first Eco-Centre for the planning and execution of all marine conservation activities. It will host a production workshop, research laboratory, education centre, volunteer mobilization unit and community meeting space. The centre will reduce current expenses while generating revenue to ensure the self-sufficiency of Vesna and its projects. This allows Vesna to place greater focus on developing community engagement, building sustainable practices and instilling the importance of marine conservation.
Actively continue the successful activities that have been started, expand the activities of artificial coral reefs, continue to spread awareness of the importance of marine protection, organize training seminars. With the support of local partners (local community, academia, conservationists, diving centers), Vesna is trying to establish a logistic Ecocentre, which will increase the efficiency of these initial activities and ultimately lead to a greater impact thanks to the multiplication of tried and tested procedures. The eco-centre will host a Coral Research Laboratory, an education centre, a production workshop and a voluntary mobilization unit. This center would also reduce current expenses while generating revenue to ensure the self-sufficiency of Vesna, the long-term and continued growth of its projects. Finally, it will further provide a space for community discourse, enabling the involvement of all stakeholders.
The restoration and rehabilitation of corals was the initial inspiration for the establishment of Vesna. It quickly became apparent that the involvement of the entire community was needed to cultivate and protect the reef. While coral cultivation continues to be one of the main missions, community development and the promotion of sustainable practices are essential for lasting change. The implementation of the Ecocenter would enable optimal efficiency in achieving these goals.
